What is the Salary Calculator?

A salary calculator is a free online tool that converts your pay between hourly, daily, weekly, monthly, and annual amounts. Use it to compare job offers, calculate overtime pay, and see exactly what an hourly wage adds up to over a year.

Salary Calculator formula

Annual salary = hourly rate × hours per week × weeks per year (typically 52). Monthly salary = annual ÷ 12. Weekly = hourly × hours per week. Daily = hourly × hours per day. For overtime, pay 1.5× the hourly rate for hours above 40 in a week under U.S. federal law.

How to use the Salary calculator

  1. 1Enter your hourly rate or annual salary.
  2. 2Enter the number of hours you work per week.
  3. 3Enter weeks worked per year (default is 52).
  4. 4Optionally add overtime hours and the overtime rate.
  5. 5Review equivalent pay across all time periods.

Example calculation

A $25/hour wage working 40 hours per week for 52 weeks equals an annual salary of $52,000 — about $4,333.33 per month, $1,000 per week, and $200 per day. Adding 5 hours of overtime each week at time-and-a-half raises annual pay to $61,750.

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate my annual salary from an hourly rate?
Multiply your hourly rate by the hours you work per week, then by the number of weeks per year. At 40 hours/week for 52 weeks, $25/hour = $25 × 40 × 52 = $52,000 per year.
How much is $20 an hour annually?
At 40 hours per week for 52 weeks, $20/hour equals $41,600 per year — about $3,466.67 per month. If you take 2 weeks unpaid vacation, annual pay drops to $40,000.
How is overtime pay calculated?
Under U.S. federal law, non-exempt employees earn 1.5× their regular hourly rate for any hours worked above 40 in a workweek. So a $20/hour worker earns $30/hour for each overtime hour.
What is the difference between gross and net salary?
Gross salary is your pay before taxes and deductions. Net (take-home) salary is what hits your bank account after federal and state taxes, Social Security, Medicare, health insurance, and retirement contributions are withheld. Net is typically 70–80% of gross.
